Nutrition
We are fortunate enough to have regular access to Nutrition Experts who systematically evaluate the nutritional needs of each DHF horse. Professional advice partnered with experienced DHF Staff ensures each horse in our care has an individual Nutrition Program that is routinely monitored for optimum health benefits.
DHF feeds high quality, grass mix hay four times per day, and typically feeds grain twice per day. A third feeding is available at night check, by request. Clients must supply additional supplements. When feeding two or more supplements, clients must provide the supplements in “baggies” or disposable plastic containers. We highly recommend Smart Paks for simplicity.
Our latest research has deemed Buckeye Gro ‘n Win DHF-worthy. A truly iconic Ration Balancer providing the daily nutrition required by your horse without increasing glucose levels. Gro ‘n Win not only provides 32% Protein per pound balanced to the 7th Amino Acid, it is also fortified with Biotin, Vitamin E, and Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid.
What does that mean?
- Gro ‘n Win is a low calorie, low starch & sugar diet that lessens hyperactivity and negative metabolic effects.
- Increased Biotin supports optimum hoof health. Increased Vitamin C & E provides extremely effective antioxidants at levels to support your horse’s immunity and metabolic function.
- Specifically balanced Amino Acids (to the first 7) maintain and build top-line and overall muscle.
- Flaxseed, is an added source of Omega 3 fatty acids that support a healthy and brilliant looking hair coat.
Buckeye guarantees 32% Protein, Biotin, and Omega 3 and 6’s. They use only Certified ingredients and their plant manufactures no medicated feeds. DHF understands the nutritional needs of horses and their partnership with Buckeye will benefit everyone. More from January 2010 newsletter
Terri Wood, District Sales Manager for Buckeye Nutrition, Mars Horsecare U.S. Inc., comments that she is “…pleased to have the opportunity to work with someone like Jen who truly cares and understands the nutritional needs of the horses she has taken responsibility to provide for. She understands the value of a low starch diet and using fat to provide calories when necessary instead of high levels of sugars and starches. All of you have calmer horses that you enjoy and get greater fulfillment from because of Jen’s dietary choices.”
