Congratulations! You’re ready for a horse show! The challenge of testing your skills will be fun and rewarding. At DHF, our primary goal is to make sure you experience both. If you are just beginning your horse show career, this page is available in PDF format* (57k). Also review Showing 101 (104k PDF*) and the Show Checklist (64k PDF*). DHF Instructors maintain a very busy competition schedule and are always happy to provide Show Coaching to DHF clients.
If you would like to schedule a lesson with a DHF Instructor at the show grounds, please sign up ahead of time. Horses currently in training with DHF are encouraged to schedule a lesson prior to arriving at the show grounds. If this lesson exceeds the number of training/lesson rides for the week as agreed on in your training package, there will be an additional lesson charge. Warm-up assistance is also available on show days and needs to be coordinated in advance.
Pricing is as follows:
- Dressage/Jumping lesson at show grounds is the same price as a private lesson at DHF
- Schooling/Warm-up assistance before a class costs half of a private lesson at DHF
- A DHF Instructor/Trainer showing your horse is the same price as a private lesson at DHF
- Out Of Town Expenses
- Travel expenses for DHF Instructors, including hotel room and meals, will be divided among clients, if the DHF Instructor is not competing at the show herself. DHF tack stall(s) will be divided by the number of clients/horses sharing it/them at the show. We always try to coordinate travel plans whenever possible, however, early feedback on your plans is highly recommended in order to accommodate every participant. If you need assistance with horse transportation to/from the show grounds, please discuss your needs with DHF Staff as early as possible so that accommodations can be made.
How To Sign Up For Shows
A sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board in the lounge so competitors can sign up for schooling assistance and lessons at shows. As always, early planning is appreciated and will be helpful in avoiding any scheduling conflicts.
If you are an DHF student or have a horse in training please list “Jennifer Truett” or “Lindsay Lechner” as “coach” on your entry form. Be sure to sign your name as trainer since you are responsible for the care of your horse while on the show grounds. Remember to sign all applicable boxes (rider/owner/trainer) on the back of each show entry form.
The DHF Instructor membership information for the entry form is as follows (Copies of cards are available upon request):
Jennifer Truett: USEF: 221777, USDF: 23091
Additionally, be sure to request to be stabled with “Dancing Horse Farm” so that all our horses will be assigned stalls together. Feed and hay will be provided by DHF, however, each owner is responsible for the care of their horse when leaving DHF. We also recommend you request extra shavings on your entry form since most shows only provide one initial bag.
See you at the next show— have fun out there and be safe!
